The new Holland Aluminum Fifth Wheel is designed for standard duty applications and forged from the same aluminum alloy as Alcoa’s aluminum truck wheels. It’s rated for 55,000 lbs. maximum vertical load and 150,000 lbs. maximum drawbar pull and is backed by SAF-HOLLAND’s 5-year/500,000 mile Performance Guarantee.
Weight conscious fleets have long used aluminum components to reduce tractor weight. Aluminum fuel tanks, wheels, frame rails, mounting angles and bell housings have already become common low weight industry specs. Now the Holland Aluminum Fifth Wheel is ready to join the list.
At 100 pounds lighter than competitive fifth wheels, haulers can load 100 pounds more per trip, which means more profit per trip.
According to Mike Ginocchio, Fifth Wheel Product Manager, “A gasoline hauler, for example, will exceed the maximum weight limit before reaching the volume capacity of the tanker. 100 pounds savings on the fifth wheel, can mean 100 pounds-or 16 gallons-more gasoline on every haul. For a fuel delivery tanker running 24/7 those additional gallons of profit can add up quickly.”
The Holland Aluminum Fifth Wheel was field tested with fleets utilizing tankers, bulk haulers, and flatbeds hauling a variety of loads, including beverages, steel, cement, fuel, liquid and bulk food products, and refuse.
The Holland Aluminum Fifth Wheel utilizes patented NoLube® technology that completely eliminates the use of grease on the top plate, between top plate and bracket, and in the lock mechanism. NoLube® technology reduces maintenance time; decreases grease in the maintenance shop and the environment, which helps owners comply with EPA regulations; and saves on steer tire wear for a smoother and safer ride.

HOLLAND, MI, March 16, 2006 – The Holland Group, Inc. (Holland) has announced the release of its Integrated, Low-Weight, Slider System (the “ILS”), which promises to reduce the weight of traditional fifth wheel/slider combos by up to 27% (151 lbs) when compared with competitive offerings.
The ILS is compatible with the Holland FW35, FW31 and FW17 fifth wheel models and is available in 7, 8, and 9 inch mounting heights and travel lengths of 12, 24, 36 and 48 inches.
Holland sliding fifth wheels provide the capability to transfer weight between tractor axles, accommodate trailers with different kingpin settings and vary vehicle combination lengths. Additionally, Holland sliding fifth wheels also offer maximum equipment flexibility, improved maneuverability and exceptional ride comfort.
